Melting point = Start to fuse at 95
deg. C.but melting point of crude saponin is 105-107 deg.C.
With sulphuric acid and acetic unhydride it gives deep red colour.
It is acidic in nature.
Elementry analysis shows that it contain Carbon 56.9%, Hydrozen 8.26% Oxygen
34.94%.
When hydrolised with 3% sulphuric acid or alcohlic solution of HCl,
Saponin give cristallised sapogenin.
The melting point of sapogenin is 316 deg. to 319 deg. C.

The Saponin is obtained as a creamy crystalline substance from the Perocarp of
Soapnuts ( Mucarossi Sapindus ). In solible in chloroform, benzene, sulphuric
acid, ether and petrolium ether. In solible in methyl alcohal and water.
USES & APPLICATIONS :
It can be utilised as an emulsifying agent for vegitable & Essential Oils.
Foam stabilizer :Manufacture of Saopless Sahmpoo.
It can be employed with advantage as a detergent and a wetting out agent in
perference to the proprietory auxiliaries ordinarily employed in the textile
Industries, particularly in the presence of hard waters at high temperatures and
in neutral and alkaline media. A mixture of soapnut extract and coconut oil soap
in equal proportions can be employed as a general textile auxiliary superior to
many of the proprietry products already in use
