Cedar wood Oil Himalyan is distilled from Roots & Stumps
of Cedrus Deodara which has been left after cutting of Deodar trees for timber
extraction. These stumps and roots are removed in a scientific way. The pits so
formed are filled consolidated and due to self sprouting of seeds or planting a
sapling new forest has grown up. There by adds to soil conservation, plant
regeneration and aforestation. Otherwise nothing would have grown in that area
covered by these dead stumps because it takes about 60-100 year for stumps to disintegrate.Crude Oil rectified by giving alkali wash is called Rectified Cedar
wood oil. Cedar Wood Oil rich in Himanchalene is called Supper Rectified Oil and
the oil rich in Atlantone and higher fraction removing Resin is Called Perfumery
Grade.
Uses and Advance Studies:
Due to its woody odour, epidermic and antiseptic properties it is
used for soap fragrance.Being non-toxic to mammals it is used to control house hold insects in place of pyretherin. Recent studies conducted at the CDRI Lucknow
have indicated that some fractions of Deodar oil have poetent spasmolytic
activity i.e. Cedrol and Deodrone are 1/10 to ½ as active as papaverine while
iso-allohimachalol were the most effective against and 1.5-4 times more active
that papaverine. Cedar Wood Oil is fungitoxic and also
exhibit wide range of activities and is found more effective fungicides as
tested. It was also found to be non-phytotoxic, non-systemic to paddy plants and
also control the development of leaf spot disease of paddy in preliminary in
vivo investigation. Futhermore the oil control the fungal deterioration of some
spices during storage (Anupam Dixit and S.N. Dixit). The
Alcoholic extract of the stem of Cedrus deodara was found to have anti-cancer
activity against human epidermal carcinoma of the nasopharynx in tissue culture
(Dhar et al., 1968). Cedar oil is useful in belching inflammation, dyspepsia,
insomnia, bronchitis, leucoderma, opthalmia ect. it is Diuretic &
Carminative. It is useful in rhumatism, epilepsy & Kidney disorders. The
terpentine present in it is used to cure Ulcers & Leprosy. (Indian Medicinal
